Gorillas and Lions

4 Days

Gorilla trekking | Game Drives

This 4-day itinerary offers a unique combination of gorilla trekking and game drives in Queen Elizabeth National Park. It is designed to give travelers a chance to see the famous tree-climbing lions, other big game, and the endangered mountain gorillas in their natural habitats.

Day 1 | Drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park

You will be picked up by our guide from the airport or your hotel in Entebbe/Kampala, depending on your arrival time. Our guide will brief you about your safari before you start the journey to Queen Elizabeth National Park. The park is located in the southwestern part of Uganda and is known for its diverse wildlife, including tree-climbing lions, elephants, buffaloes, and hippos. You will have a stopover at the Equator, where you can take photos and buy souvenirs. Then proceed to Mbarara town, where you will have lunch before continuing to Queen Elizabeth National Park.

Day 2 | Queen Elizabeth National Park

After an early breakfast, you will set off for a game drive in the park. The drive will take you through the Kasenyi plains, where you can expect to see elephants, buffaloes, antelopes, warthogs, and various bird species. You will also have an opportunity to spot the famous tree-climbing lions in the Ishasha sector. The game drive will take about 3-4 hours, after which you will return to the lodge for lunch and relaxation. Later in the afternoon, you will go for a boat ride on the Kazinga Channel, which connects Lake Edward and Lake George. Here, you can spot hippos, crocodiles, elephants, and buffaloes as they drink water along the shores.

Day 3 | Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

After breakfast, you will check out and travel to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. You will arrive in the afternoon and check in at the lodge. The park is home to the endangered mountain gorillas, and you will trek through the jungle to find them. You will be briefed by park rangers about the do’s and don’ts while in the park, and you will be divided into groups of eight. The trek can take between 2-8 hours, depending on the location and movement of the gorillas. On finding them, you will spend an hour with the gorillas, watching them feed and play. You will return to the lodge in the evening and may choose to relax or take a walk around the lodge.

Day 4 | Departure

After breakfast, you will check out of the lodge and start the journey back to Kampala, passing through rolling hills with terraces and lush vegetation. You will have a stopover at the Mbambire drum makers point, where you can buy souvenirs. Then proceed to Kampala and arrive late in the afternoon, where our guide will drop you off at your hotel or the airport for your flight back home.
